Opening Times
We are open 5 mornings and 5 afternoons. Children are able to attend for a minimum of three mornings Younger children have the option of starting nursery with shorter sessions. This offers a small intimate group and are a great way of introducing your child to the setting.
Ages of children
We take children from two years old.
Structure of the session
Each session follows a basic structure allowing the children to become familiar with the routine
8.00- 9.15 Breakfast
9.15–9.45 Drop off, registration and group circle time
10.00-11.00 Play and activity session/art and craft/small group activities/
11.00-11.15 Snack time
11.15-12.15 Play and activity session/music and movement.
12.15-12.30 Story time
12.35-12,45 Home time
12.45- 3.00 Extended session pick up time
At the start of the session children self- register which involves them finding their photo and name and putting them on the board to show who is present. This encourages independence, name recognition and getting a sense of belonging to a group. During the indoor play session there are a wide range of activities on offer with paint, glue, construction, home corner, numeracy, literacy, fine and gross motor, natural materials, small world, music, dance and physical activities available everyday. Outside play offers a wide range of learning opportunities including physical, gross motor, nature study, sand, water as well as allowing learning to be extended across the whole curriculum.
We offer music, movement and dance activities most days and use musical instruments a couple of times a week as a group as well as being available every day for the children to use independently.
Children come to snack time in small groups giving children the opportunity to talk with friends and adults in a small group. Children are encouraged to pour their own drinks and are made aware of the snack choices through the photo board. A snack board for parents information is displayed outside in dry weather or in wet weather the lobby. If there are any foods your child does not eat then please let us know.
Curriculum Planning and Assessment
We use the areas of learning set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework to support children’s learning and development within the Nursery environment and plan activities. In order to plan for your children’s learning and ensure they make good progress during their time with us we assess their learning on a daily basis through observations, written notes, photos and examples of work.
We follow the interests and individual needs of children incorporating these into our daily activities.
Children learn best when they follow their own interests so do let us know if there is anything specific your child is enjoying at the moment. We plan more focused activities each week based around weekly topics which are displayed on the door for your information and also so you can support this learning at home.
We often ask for parents to bring items to support our topics and items for the display table.
In the Spring term, from January, we offer the oldest children the opportunity to extend their learning around the topic working in a smaller group with a greater adult focus. This takes place in the church vestry.
The Early Years Foundation Stage
The EYFS sets standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to 5. EYFS is based around four themes, each of which is linked to an important principle. Each principle has four commitments which explain how the principles can be put into practice.
A unique child

Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.

The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

Involving Parents in learning
As the child’s parent, you know them best and it supports their learning if we know about their interests and things that they have been doing. We have several ways in which you can become involved and these include:
Our message book – please make a note here if you have been on any outings that your child might like to talk about or if you have noticed anything that they are suddenly interested in.
Show and Tell - At the start of registration, we always have the opportunity for the children to share photos, books, or items of interest from home. This is a great way to develop communication skills.
Key worker notes – During the term some children may receive `a note home` to suggest ways in which you can assist your child’s learning at home.
Holiday/Outings board – if you go on holiday or visit any interesting places we ask parents to bring in a photo to share.
Communication with Parents
Parents are welcome to come into the nursery at any time to talk to their child's key worker or to me.
Over your child’s time at Nursery we will keep you updated of their progress and have several ways in which we do this. These include:
· A settling in review – this is a short review and is sent to parents after six weeks.
· Curriculum report – this is a more detailed report and links to the six areas of learning. This is
usually sent in the child’s second term but for younger children or children attending part-time may
be later.
· Parent’s meeting – this is offered as a follow-up to the curriculum report and gives you an
opportunity to see things your child has been doing, share observations about development and
interests as well as finding out how you can help them in their learning.
Learning Journey – this is a folder containing observations, curriculum activities, photographs,
projects your child has done with their key worker that are collected across the year. It shows the
journey of your child’s experiences, personal growth, learning and having fun and is for you to keep
and treasure.
We understand that all families are different so are happy to tailor our communication to your circumstances. This may be a quick chat at the beginning or end of the session, an email update or arranging a termly meeting. Please let us know your requirements and we will respond as best we can, within our limits of time and suitability.
Key Worker
Every child is assigned a key worker within the first few weeks of starting nursery. We allow time for the children to get to know us and can then make a best match based on interests, personalities and numbers of children starting. Siblings automatically go to the same member of staff. We will inform you of the key worker as soon as it has been decided.
Policy Documents
All of the nursery school policies are available for parents to read and are in a folder in the entrance area, they are also put out at every coffee morning.
Nursery Reps
We have parent nursery reps, their photos are on the board in the lobby and their email addresses are on the parent list that you will be sent. The role of the nursery representatives include:
· Assisting with information
· Sending emails to parents on behalf of the nursery manager
· Collecting and collating ideas and suggestions from parents to bring to termly meetings
· Provide a list of names and emails for parents
· Meet with staff once a term
· Arrange social gatherings and coffee mornings
· Send curriculum information and nursery information to full time working parents

We run a summer club during August. Non Nursery children welcome
